In addition, the ECU is responsible for power limits, emissions compliance, overload protection and emergency modes. When deviations occur it can cut engine power, limit revs or put the system into safe mode.

In some cases access to part of these functions is restricted by factory protection. Then an ECU unlock is performed, which allows working with protected memory areas and altered control configurations.

Technical logic of ECU operation

Inside the control unit several computing loops run. One is responsible for fuel delivery, the second for ignition, the third for load control and corrections from the oxygen sensors.

The ECU constantly compares calculated values with actual ones. For example, if the system detects a shortage of air or fuel, the unit automatically corrects injection parameters. This happens continuously, in real time.

A separate part of the logic is protection maps. They limit engine operation under overheating, detonation, falling fuel pressure or other critical conditions. These maps are embedded in the software structure and are activated automatically.
