What happens to tyres if they're stored on a balcony under the sun?
Sunlight and temperature swings accelerate rubber ageing: it becomes stiff, develops micro-cracks and loses elasticity, which is critical for road safety.
Do tyres really need to be washed before going into storage?
Seasonal tyre storage at the service center includes cleaning off dirt, tar and road chemicals, because contaminants eat into the rubber over time and destroy its structure.
How should tyres be labelled properly so they don't get mixed up next season?
It's best to use a permanent marker or tags, noting not just "front/rear" but the exact wheel position (for example, "Front Left" or "FL") to keep wear even when remounting.
In what position is it forbidden to store tyres on rims?
It's strictly forbidden to store them vertically (standing) or stacked "on edge", because that creates point loads. At UnlimBoost they're stored horizontally in stacks or on dedicated racks.
What is "flat spot syndrome" and how do you avoid it?
It's deformation of the tread during long storage without movement in one position. To avoid it, tyres without rims are rotated every 2–3 months, and those on rims are slightly inflated and turned.
Why is it important to store tyres away from chemicals and oils?
Rubber is hygroscopic and actively absorbs fumes from petrol, acids and oils, which makes the material soften or crack. With seasonal tyre storage in Chisinau at our service center the air is cleaned of these contaminants.
Does the floor type in the storage area affect tyre quality?
Yes. Concrete or stone floors pull moisture and cold, which accelerates rubber crystallisation. Wooden pallets or rubber mats are optimal, as used in the UnlimBoost climate chambers.
Is storing wheels on rims in a dry basement acceptable?
Most often no: even in a dry basement humidity is usually high and temperatures swing, which causes condensation inside the tyre and corrosion on the rims. The safe range is +10 to +25°C and 50–60% humidity.

It's best to bring wheels in right after the seasonal change. Summer tyres are taken away for the winter, winter tyres for the summer. If you don't follow this process and store tyres incorrectly, the rubber can deform, lose elasticity or pick up micro-defects that affect handling.
